Create a printed edition of The Daily Aztec as it isi no longer in print, on behalf of the SDSU Art Gallery to award to Richard Anthony Marks.
Collaborated with Joshua Scott, a Daily Aztec and San Diego reporter and student. The project required reconstructing a traditional print layout from contemporary materials. Josh gathered the articles and photographs through his reporting and research, while my role was to design a legacy-style newspaper format and explore printing options
The SDSU Gallery Dept awarded alumnus Richard Anthony Marks (class of '1963) the namesake of a gallery in the Art South building on campus. Known for his bright genre defining contemporary paitnings, his work was on display during the first few weeks of opening. Richard and his family attended, remarking on his love for The Daily Aztec school newspaper. As a keepsake, the gallery contacted Joshua and then myself to recreate a special edition on his legacy.

The new Title Font for TDA online was not as vintage as we liked. we instead opted for the original typeface, with the slightly newer digital version available on adobe fonts. To keep the broadside dimensions we examine the columns and margins, creating a 13 by 19 inch broadside sheet.

While it was hard to locate previous archived magazines or photos, and we didn't want to reach out to ask for some from his family as it was a surprise, we decided to keep the paper focused on his new gallery and previous artwork. The body typeface was increased and kept with a magazine style or article, asa fully justified column could muddy legibiluty due to the paper's overall size. We tried out various papers types ranging from newsprint to cardstock, but settled on a plain white, front and back, single sheet. Optiong for the general. feel and durability a copy sheet could provide.
